Biodiversity is all around us. It encompasses all living things: animals, plants, insects, trees, flowers, and the natural environments in which they live.
We often think of biodiversity when we talk about vast tropical rainforests or oceans, but it is also present very close to home. In meadows, forests, rivers, orchards, or even in our gardens, it contributes to the balance of nature and our quality of life.
In practical terms, biodiversity encompasses the full richness of life: the different natural environments, the numerous species that inhabit them, and all the interactions that exist between them. It is thanks to this diversity that ecosystems function and that we can benefit from quality water, cleaner air, and the pollination necessary for many crops.
A few figures help to illustrate this richness: nearly 1,9 million species are known worldwide today, including approximately 300,000 in the oceans. France alone is home to nearly 10% of the world's biodiversity. Even more surprising, soils are thought to harbor nearly a quarter of the planet's biodiversity!
Yet, this richness is now threatened. Pollution, the disappearance of certain natural habitats, climate change, and soil sealing are weakening numerous animal and plant species. According to the United Nations, nearly a million species could disappear in the coming decades if nothing is done.
The good news is that everyone can take action on their own scale. Preserving hedges, planting local species, leaving space for nature in your garden, encouraging pollinators, or simply respecting natural areas during your walks are all actions that contribute to protecting biodiversity.
To raise awareness among young and old about these issues in a friendly and fun way, the Community of Communes of the Villé Valley is organizing the Biodiversity Festival on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Biodiversity in celebration: a day to learn, discover and have fun
The Community of Municipalities invites you to celebrate the richness of the fauna and flora of our territory during a great day dedicated to nature, accessible to all audiences.
Throughout the day, numerous local associations will offer free activities related to arboriculture, beekeeping, fruit pressing, and many other topics. More than fifteen stands will provide opportunities to discover birds, fish, bats, flowers, trees, and even the secrets of the pond.
Also on the program:
- An introductory outing to botany and landscape discovery, accompanied by experts
- A humorous show about water issues
- Two interactive quiz-conferences to test your knowledge with family or friends
- Three film screenings featuring Oscar-nominated documentaries
The Villé Valley Tourist Office also invites you to visit its stand on Saturday, June 6th, from 9 am to 18 pm. We will be delighted to welcome you, share our ideas for nature outings, and help you discover all the treasures of the valley.
