Bertsch et Fils: a family business based in Saint-Martin

In Saint-Martin, at 9 rue du Moulin, Bertsch et Fils is a family business specializing in masonry, renovation, and structural work. Founded by the father, it has grown gradually, through projects and the involvement of his children, who have now taken over the business while maintaining the family name and structure.

A simple story: a trade passed down from father to son

The father, a bricklayer and plasterer, passed on his building skills to his children. Each followed their own path: a vocational certificate in bricklaying, membership in the Compagnons du Devoir (a French guild system)... before joining the family business and contributing to its growth.

The takeover happened naturally. Today, the company consists of a part dedicated to construction sites and another, rapidly expanding, oriented towards real estate, while retaining the identity and values that make it strong.

A small, close-knit team

Today, the company has three people, soon to be four with the arrival of the little brother.
The division of roles is simple: the father is in contact with clients and brings his field experience, while the two brothers handle quotes, invoicing, and organization. All three also work on the construction sites.
This organization allows us to work efficiently while remaining responsive, especially for quotes.

Various construction projects throughout the valley

Bertsch et Fils intervenes in:

  • construction and extension,
  • the renovation,
  • the creation of low walls, terraces, staircases,
  • demolition and deconstruction.

The company works with different materials: concrete, brick, stone, breeze block, wood thanks to local sawmills.

A major project: completely rebuilding Fouday

Among their recent experiences, the team highlights a project in Fouday: a house to be almost entirely demolished, 100 tons of rubble to be removed, then a complete reconstruction in the middle of winter. An example of a technically demanding and lengthy project, carried out by three people.

Local partners and suppliers

The company regularly collaborates with: Tout Faire Matériaux, Siehr Sélestat, the Steige sawmill, as well as companies in the valley for sanitary ware.
She works mainly in the Villé Valley, but also in the areas of Sélestat, Obernai, Colmar, Molsheim and sometimes the Vosges.

The future: to continue developing construction sites and real estate

The upcoming projects mainly concern:

  • the continuation of work in the valley,
  • the development of real estate activity,

The message to the inhabitants of the valley

I then asked them the question, "Why use their company?" Their answer was clear: they want to be seen as a serious, accessible, and available family business that does its job properly while remaining close to the inhabitants of the valley.

Advice for young people who want to enter the building

“Starting alone is difficult. It’s better to be well supported and work as a team.”

Thank you to the Bertsch et Fils team for coming to answer our questions.
