Discovering the woodworking trades

Wood, a living and bountiful material, lends itself to a wide variety of craftsmanship. Carved, it becomes decoration, a motif, or an everyday object, shaped with precision by the tools and eye of the artisan. Split into thin splints, it is transformed into basketry. Woven with patience, it gives rise to sturdy and lightweight baskets, once essential for transport and storage. Drilled and hollowed, wood also becomes conduit: pipes and conduits allowed water to be carried through villages and homes, demonstrating an often overlooked ingenuity. Thus worked, wood reveals all its qualities, encompassing utility, aesthetics, and adaptation to the needs of daily life.
