Saint Wendelin Church
Located on a hillside above the beautiful Place du Tilleul, the current church of Albé, dedicated to Saint Wendelin, dates from 1752 (the patron saint is already mentioned in 1341 for a church erected by Bishop Berthold of Strasbourg).
This house, along with 45 others nearby, fell victim to the terrible fire that ravaged the village at Pentecost in 1575. The current building stands on the site of the old chapel, which was damaged in the 1575 fire and demolished (except for the ground floor of the tower).
The chancel vault is decorated with motifs devoted to the Sacred Heart, a cult that flourished at the end of the 17th century. The altar is characteristic of the 18th century. The antependium features a rich decoration of stylized leaves, garlands, and scrolls, the asymmetry of which conforms to the aesthetics of authentic Baroque. The church in Albé was equipped in 1839 with a Stiehr organ, which was converted to pneumatic action in 1918.
The instrument was modified in 1970 by Schwenkedel, who installed a new zinc facade. The organ case remained original.
