The Schloessel

Built in 1726, this imposing building was nicknamed "Schloessel" by the locals, meaning "little castle." The west wall is adorned with a two-story oriel window above the entrance to the vaulted cellar that occupies the entire basement, hinting at the owner's wealth.

On the lintels of the first-floor windows of the oriel, two sculpted medallions can be seen. The first features the monogram of Christ with a heart and a Greek cross, and the second that of the Virgin Mary. Money and religion were then considered compatible.

The lintel of the front door is adorned with a triangular pediment framing a niche for a statuette. The window lintels of the house are still straight, as in the 17th century, while those of the oriel window are arched in the style of the 13th century.
