Each atmosphere is recreated wonderfully, you feel like you're there, the realism is impressive.
I'm naturally curious, and the information about this activity at the library intrigued me. So I decided to try this out with my two teenagers, aged 15 and 13.
One day to go. I booked the tickets very easily on the website @: Book your ticket to visit Odyssée – The Library where you are the hero (jds.fr).
D-Day. We arrive early to have time to visit the Humanist Library, "BH" for those in the know.
I know this library well. It's the library of my childhood and I love its transformation.
We take a few minutes before entering to admire the work of the architect Rudy RICCIOTTI, who also designed the MUCEM in Marseille.
The majestic pink sandstone pillars enhance the building.
At the entrance, we were greeted by a great man: his explanations were very clear, then he told us to meet him at 16:30 pm downstairs, next to the reception.
We have a good 30 minutes to review the treasures of the library (for me) and see them for the first time for the teenagers.
They discover the place and a "wow" comes directly from the tall one's mouth. He is in awe of the place, the glass cube and the height of the place.
We then set off to meet Beatus Rhenanus and Jean Mentel, and many others. We admire the BH's treasure with 154 medieval manuscripts and its 1611 printed works from the 15th century.e and 16the centuries.
We still have some time left and we take advantage of it to do the writing workshop for their first names at the interactive kiosk.
There's still so much to discover, but it's time to travel; the Odyssey awaits us at last!
We arrive at the reception area on the ground floor and are greeted by two young women.
The explanations are clear and helpful. We adjust our helmets and off we go!
I'm eager to play, because I have some doubts about whether I'll be able to get into it since I'm not into video games or 3D movies at all. The boys, on the other hand, are eager to play and especially to win.
There are 4 places per team. Two teams play at the same time but not in the same room. Since there are three of us, I am the color red and the boys are blue and yellow.
It's dark, our headset is on, controllers are in our hands (there's just one button to activate... phew) and here we are, plunged into a virtual world.
We are first at the Humanist Library, a voice guides us and gives us instructions.
Against all odds, I win. At 1er In the game, my boat is the first to cross the finish line… Which is a real head-scratcher for my teenagers!
We travel through 5 worlds, drawn from 4 books and an object found at the BH.
Next, we go to the HK castle in 1945, then to the conquest of the story of the Trojan Horse… We set a longship ablaze using flaming arrows. We opened chests, placed lanterns, etc.

I was surprised to find myself having trouble crossing a footbridge we made out of planks, I got so caught up in the game.
As you can see, it's something to do... with family or friends.

- The staff were excellent both at reception and at the Odyssée (despite the minor computer glitches).
