The origin of Krav Maga
Krav Maga originates from Israel. The term can be translated as "close combat." This self-defense method combines techniques from boxing, Muay Thai, judo, jujitsu, and wrestling.
This method was created by Imi Lichentenfeld, who served in the Hungarian and then Israeli armies. The techniques used are very similar to military close-quarters combat techniques (CQC). Today, this method, initially reserved for specific groups, is widely used throughout the world.
For those who wish to participate, there are also competitions held under the auspices of the French Karate Federation (FFK). Progression follows the FFK belt system. Black belts can advance up to 8th Dan (or Darga or Degree). Independently of belt progression, instructor training is also available starting at blue belt (level 1), and the FFK Federal Instructor Diploma (DIF) or Federal Facilitator Diploma (DAF) can be obtained upon reaching 1st Dan black belt.
One French Vice-Champion and two Alsace champions within the Club.
After shining at the Alsace championships with two titles (Mr. Zerr-Stark and Mr. Novacovik), the young club "Krav-Maga Open Mind" distinguished itself at the French Championships which took place in Toulouse on February 3 and 4, 2024.
Indeed, Gabriel ZERR-STARCK became Vice-Champion of France in self-defense combat and finished 3rd in cage free fighting . In total, 152 athletes competed in 3 disciplines: technical combat (choreographed demonstration by pairs), self-defense combat (simulated attack scenario), and cage free fighting allowing strikes, throws, and holds.
The next objective is participation in the World Championships. The club plans to enter several athletes there.
