Created on May 30, 1953, by the Issenheim tourist office, the Alsace Wine Route originated during a car rally. Since its inception, it has begun in Marlenheim, west of Strasbourg, and winds its way south, passing through the villages of Sélestat and Colmar, before ending near Mulhouse, in Thann. Stretching for approximately 170 km, this route crosses nearly 120 wine-growing villages where more than 720 producers welcome visitors to their cellars.
Crossing both the Bas-Rhin and the Haut-Rhin, the Alsace Wine Route is essential to the regional identity.
In 1962, efforts to promote Alsatian viticulture were rewarded with the granting of the AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) Vin d'Alsace, the Alsace Grand Cru appellation was created in 1975, followed by the Crémant d'Alsace appellation in 1976. The emblematic grape varieties of this route are Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot Noir.
The Alsatian vineyards attract millions of visitors each year. With over 3 million wine tourists annually, it is the third most visited wine region in France, after Bordeaux and Champagne.
The Alsatian Wine Route, the cradle of tourism, is synonymous with refined tastings and picturesque walks. Whether you prefer to explore the vineyards on foot, by bike, or by car, every kilometer offers breathtaking views of wine-growing landscapes and authentic villages.
ALSACE ROCKS! The Regional Tour
Over 100 passionate winemakers open the doors of their finest vineyards to you. Every Sunday from June to July, from 10:00 am to 19:00 pm, come and enjoy a unique experience in the heart of the Alsace Wine Route.
Pop-up bar and wine selection
Every Sunday, discover a pop-up bar where a new selection of Grands Crus and terroir wines, carefully chosen by the winemakers, awaits you.
Workshops and tastings
Numerous themed workshops await you to deepen your knowledge of oenology. Participate in themed tastings, workshops to better understand AOP wines and their terroirs, and much more.
Nature activities
Enjoy a variety of activities in the heart of the vineyards. Explore the landscapes by taking part in guided walks or venturing onto the vineyard trails. Games for children are also available so the whole family can have fun.
Chill area and restaurant
Relax in the chill area, equipped with deck chairs.
Discover and taste the specialties of regional food trucks and caterers.
Musical atmosphere
A DJ will be present to liven up your day with live music.
The Terroirs Tour: A commitment to ecology
The Terroirs Tour is also an eco-responsible event!
All service providers are local and based on short supply chains.
The use of recyclable and recycled materials is preferred, with reusable cups, wooden cutlery and glass tasting glasses.
The furniture also comes from recycling initiatives, in partnership with Emmaüs Scherwiller, and new furniture is created from reclaimed wood from pallets or from Vosges forests.
There is also a desire for solidarity: corks are collected weekly and contribute to the funding of medical equipment. This initiative is managed by the association "Les Bouchons de l'Espoir 67".
The wooden children's games come from a micro-enterprise in La Vancelle, thus supporting local craftsmanship.
Sustainable mobility is encouraged through the promotion of carpooling and the use of cycle paths.
The Terroirs Tour – ALBE #2
Join us on Sunday, June 9, 2024, for the second leg of the Terroirs Tour in the picturesque village of Albé and its unique schist terroir, one of the few mountain vineyards in Alsace. On this occasion, the winemakers of Albé, Reichsfeld, and Bernardvillé will come together to offer you an exceptional celebration.
Discover the local wines
Join a series of workshops led by local winemakers to discover the region's wines. You can enjoy a wine bar, guided vineyard tours, and hands-on workshops. A DJ will also be on hand to keep the party going all day long.
