The present moment with Céline Gemsa

Meeting with Céline Gemsa, "The Present Moment" in Saint-Maurice!

I will try in a few lines to introduce myself and tell you about my background, but being very talkative, I think I will end up writing a short novel!

I'm a beautician and have lived in St. Maurice for nine years. I met my partner, who has lived in this beautiful valley for 25 years! We share a passion… rally driving. I've been his co-driver for two years. We even participated in the Central Alsace Rally on October 10th, right in our lovely vineyards!

I worked for 18 years in a pharmacy in Illkirch. I advised and managed the dermo-cosmetics, dietetics, and herbal medicine sections. This allowed me to complete numerous training courses to better advise my clients. After 10 years at the pharmacy, my employers bought an apartment above it and offered to convert it into a beauty salon to diversify our business. They fully financed the project without any financial involvement on my part and gave me complete freedom to manage it! Aside from Cinderella, I don't know who else could have had such an opportunity!

It was a real success because we started with 2 beauticians and after 4 years we had 5!

Then after 18 years, they retired and decided to sell everything.

Having been unable to find a buyer who wanted the complete package, pharmacy + institute, and not knowing who would take over, I went to another pharmacy, in Illkirch, at Baggersee in Auchan.

But this position only allowed me to do consulting, and no possibility of providing treatments. I worked there for 3 years then, last year, a friend who bought the Sulzbad Spa in Soultz-les-Bains offered me to join her team.

I accept immediately, happy to be able to receive treatments again.

It was during this year that I became aware that I had magnetism. I decided to take courses in order to better understand this energy and channel it.

Unfortunately, Covid arrived and forced us to close our establishment not for two months like other businesses, but for four months, a drastic directive from the Regional Health Agency (ARS). Reopening was difficult because spa patronage resumed only very slowly. This was followed by financial difficulties, forcing us to make a painful decision: the elimination of my position through redundancy, as I was the most recently hired employee.

Once I'd taken the blow, I told myself that if this is happening to me, it's so I can do something even better! I'm an optimist by nature!

Having a 45 square meter space under the house with a separate entrance, my partner suggests using this space to turn it into a beauty salon.

I decide to create My Wellness Space.

We rolled up our sleeves and did some work to make it a cozy place.

I poured all my love into it and took great pleasure in decorating the place according to my feelings and personality. And I gave it a name… chosen according to my philosophy of life. It's called: "The Present Moment".

Then I had to choose a brand that suited me. An organic brand, with pleasant textures and glamorous fragrances, because sometimes organic doesn't always smell good!

I like to buy local in my daily life and I often favor local producers in the valley. And it wasn't by chance (because in life, benevolent little angels help us, but you have to believe...) that one day I met a neighbor in my bakery in St. Maurice. We chatted, and she told me about her new business. She works with organic cosmetics, the Metzler range. The brand's manufacturing, ethics, and philosophy resonate with me. So I decided to work with them.

Having a waiting room, I offer a moment to chat over a cup of tea after each treatment, as maintaining this welcoming atmosphere is important. I offer teas from the D'âme Nature shop in Sélestat…because, once again, it's important to support local businesses!

And so, this is the story of how this space came to be, where I offer energy healing, intuitive massages, back treatments, facials, and waxing. All these treatments are performed in compliance with health regulations related to the virus: wearing masks, disinfecting all equipment and the room, using disposable spatulas, etc.

In terms of communication, I will use social media to raise my profile.

I'm going to create an Instagram page since I'm on there, and for Facebook, I'll initially post through my partner's account. The Chamber of Trades has offered me support and the creation of a professional Facebook page. I'm waiting to be contacted. Because you can't just become a webmaster overnight! Everyone has their own skills!

I had flyers and business cards printed. They should arrive around November 9th.

And what about the Villé valley in all of this…

I love this valley; I do a lot of Nordic walking with my dog Oscar, a border collie.

I love the view along the forest above Trimbach, from where you can see the whole valley with a view of the Climont mountain and Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle. For the past nine years, I've been constantly amazed by the beauty of the landscape, and not once can I help but say, "Wow, it's so beautiful!" I never tire of it. I feel like I'm on vacation every day, which always makes my partner smile.

Here is my story, in a few… long lines, I grant you.

I sincerely hope my project will be successful. It would allow people who want to be pampered to avoid traffic jams, parking problems, and the need to travel long distances home after a relaxing treatment.

And for this beautiful valley, that's one more business!

So my final word will be taken from a book containing little philosophical phrases that I particularly like and inspired by Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Nothing great has ever been achieved without enthusiasm."
