Recipe of the month: Mennhans

In Urbeis, the inhabitants are nicknamed "Mennhans," a name inherited from a simple yet flavorful traditional potato dish that perfectly illustrates the richness of the land and local traditions. This peasant dish, prepared with modest but carefully chosen ingredients, is a true symbol of conviviality and sharing around the table.

The Mennhans recipe

This recipe comes from Marie-Jeanne, from the Fouchy town newsletter:

Fry a heaping spoonful of flour in a little fat to make a brown roux. Gradually whisk in cold water, then add the quartered potatoes and a finely chopped onion or shallot. Add a bay leaf, a splash of vinegar, salt, and pepper to taste, then add a little more water to allow the potatoes to cook gently. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender.
